as a life ends and a couple moves apart
a tattoo melts from skin, valet for the dark
slung to the sun and it’s ready to roast
chains lie flat almost comatose
and I know we’re back at it
a way to find power
amongst the grasp and beside my last
attempt to make our
link to fame soaring past complaint
of lazy eyes fading
beneath the joy, hidden and destroyed
some day I’ll go outside and walk away
nowhere else to stay
underwater panic turns up floating upside down
steering calm and careless
content, alone, no sound
flip through the deck of cards
slide through the broken barbs
and I know we’re back at it
